3rd Team News:

In Division Five the big shock saw Woodham Mortimer II's gain only their second ever victory as they stunned second placed Boreham Reserves with an 19 run victory. Andy Smith scoring 39 as Woodham III's were dismissed for 101. Boreham Reserves seemed well on their way at 47-1 from four overs, but then everything went wrong for them, and right for Woodham Mortimer III's as Steve Collis and Keith Mitchell each claimed two wickets as they were bowled out for 82, with only Rob Hepworth, 28, and Ed Topliss, 26, scoring more than one run. A great way to go into the christmas break for wmcc..........

October 9th 1pm at Notley WMCC thirds v Boreham Reserves

After winning the toss and deciding to have a bowl in the opening game of the season, the thirds made a fantastic start. John Woodrow was unplayable on the Notley surface and took 2 early wickets for 5 runs off his first 2 overs. Craig Marshall also bowled a tight spell for 1 wicket, and after a run out Boreham was staring down the barrel being 4 down for 20 odd runs. Mark Johnson and dan Karcocki took a wicket each and after a run out it looked like we would clean them up for fewer than 50 in 8 overs. Unfortunately they had one batsman who went on to score 47. Craig picked him up in the 11th over leaving Boreham all out for 72.

We made a solid start to our batting innings as we only needed 6 an over but after loosing Roger Marshall (10) Mark Beames (0) and Mark Johnson (12) we were 3 down for 20 and needed a little inspiration. John Woodrow and Craig Marshall (21) gave it a good go and looked quite comfortable until john was run out. Dan went cheaply leaving Craig to score 20 odd off last 2 overs.

It was not to be and we were all out for 58. Not the best start to the season however we got 4 points so already broken last seasons record!!! Hurrah!! I count that as a result…sort of…

I am still very positive for the coming season and as from next week when last seasons playing restrictions are lifted I will be able to pick a number of players from last years seconds which is particularly exciting. With this in mind I hope to have a good selection of players for the thirds this season so could I ask everyone who wishes to be available, or unavailable for that matter to please reply promptly to my texts.
